Three shows I want to start watching:
Downton Abbey.
The Office.
Parenthood.
Anybody watch those?
These days I am slightly addicted to Chopped these days. And Cupcake Wars.
And we've been making the Captain watch, too.
I figured it wouldn't hurt to throw in some sort of a cooking show every once in awhile to counter balance all the Bigfoot viewing.
And, I want to read more books this year.
Anybody have any recommendations.
That's all.
Oh, and my kids successfully made it out the door for school. Dressed and everything. Success.

yeah, it's hot
High today 102.
High tomorrow 103
That's like Equator Hot.
Ridiculous.
Stupid to talk about the heat. But that's what people do.
Whoa, it's so hot.
People also like to tell others when they have a headache.
Or when they can't sleep.
Why is that?
I thought about that last night at 1:30 when I couldn't sleep.
Dallas last night was good.
J. R. was conniving as ever.
And his eyebrows should have their own zip code.
And John Ross... whew ... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Ridiculous TV I know....
But, like I said, it's a nice break from shows about gators and sasquatches....
OK, have a good day, people.
Hydrate or die.

Sweepy
The Captain was watching one of those shows that he watches.... no, not a sasquatch one. This was like a fact or faked show. Something about a vortex or something like that. And the folks went in the house and made a broom stand upright on end.
I wasn't impressed. Because I had seen folks doing that on the internets.
But the Captain seemed to be pretty intrigued.
So I thought I'd give it a whirl.
So me and the broom headed to the kitchen.
And, sure enough, I made it stand upright on end. On the bristles. In the middle of the kitchen floor. Standing at attention.
I called the Captain in to take a look.
Tah-dah!
Was he impressed that I mastered this feat?
Nope.
He just put his hands on his head and said, "Oh no, we live in a vortex!"
Was he serious? Nope.
Was he impressed with what I did? Nope.
He just headed back to the den and the bunk on TV.
"Weren't you wowed that I can do that to the broom?!?!?"
"Meh."
OK, then.
So I whopped him with the broom.
Not really.
I swept up tumbleweed dog hair off the floor.
And went to bed.
The end.

plugged in
I was quite proud of the electronic accomplishments I made yesterday....
I am not a good one for hooking up games and cords and cable and stuff. I just don't get it.... I can plug something into the wall. That's about it.
But I managed to successfully hook up Cooper's "new gaming system" on the TV in the den and figured out how to run all the cords and plugs and things in and around and behind and through all the holes in the entertainment center.
Then I hooked up a new cable box and the "old gaming system" onto the TV in the play room upstairs and figured out how to plug in the round and square and pointy plugs into the correct receptacles.
I amazed myself.
I amazed the Captain.
High fives all around.
We're cooking with grease now.

Team Hatfield
If you missed Hatfields and McCoys miniseries on the History Channel this week.then you missed it.
It really was excellent. And that's a high compliment from me becasue I'm allergic to history. It's such ... old news.
It was a nice break from the exciting television we usually watch that involves hunting for sasquatch or searching through storage units for treasure.
I also need no excuse to watch anything with Kevin Costner in it. Bill Paxton was an added bonus.
I went back and forth before I decided I was Team Hatfield. Although I sure felt sorry for Sally McCoy. And poor Roseanna. Johnse really loved her... Oh, and Cotton... "The Hatfields made me do it!" *sniff*
Sorry, I digress.....
But seriously. Catch it if it reruns.
I might even watch it again.
Kind of surprised me that I liked it so much.
The Captain will be proud of me.

Da Tube
I don't watch a whole lot of TV.
I like to watch any show that ends in the word "ball"
The Captain usually possesses the remote. So, by default, I watch shows that involve Bigfoot, gators, guns, or pawn shops. They are (usually) interesting.
I want to watch Downton Abbey. Anybody watch that? I actually thought it was DownTOWN Abbey. Goober.
I also want to watch The Office. Is it even still on TV? I can catch it on Netflix I guess.
And, I still have some episodes remaining with my fave Friday Night Lights. Coach Eric Taylor.... hubba.
What have you been catching on the ol' tube?

Monday morning FNL blah blah blah
The weekend has come and gone.
And I really have nothing exciting to report.
Because I really did nothing exciting.
Other than watch Friday Night Lights, fill my car up with gas, sort the Captain's socks, and go to the grocery. I know, y'all... My life is just so exciting. I can hardly stand it.
The Captain and Cooper made it back from their trip which was to the state that starts with T that is not Tennessee. And they had dinner with the Captain's sister's in-laws. And also a pretty well-known U.S. Senator.
And, of course, I texted the Captain and asked him to ask her if she watches FNL. Because I'm just like that.
And he did. Because he's just like that. Probably because he figured if he asked her and was embarrassed, he would never see her again. And he knew if he didn't ask her, he would have to face me again and I would have hollered at him, "Why didn't you ask her?! It's a simple question! Not controversial. Good conversation starter. It's no big deal! Why didn't you ask her?!"
So, he asked her. Atta' boy.
And, disappointingly, the answer was no.
Humph.
How can you live in that Great State and not watch Friday Night Lights?!? Like she's too busy being concerned with national debt and foreign policy and sponsoring bills and stuff.
I definitely will NOT be voting for her next time.
Oh, wait....
Anyway, I'm probably watching too much Friday Night Lights because I swear I saw Matt Saracen at a red light last night.
But today, it's back to work. I can hardly contain my joy...

Textual commentary
The Captain and Cooper have taken a little road trip. Jordan and I celebrated Girl Style last night by eating Goldfish and watching Friday Night Lights. Yes, I've converted her to an FNL fan. It wasn't hard.
I know, I know... I should just nip it about all the FNL stuff.
I'm just digging it so much.
And maybe it's because the first real show I've really watched in a long time. And by real show, I mean one that doesn't involve a Sasquatch, a gator, or any shooting-type weapon.
And poor Bingmama. She has seen all five episodes. So I feel compelled to text her during the show with every thought that crosses my mind and remind her of the great things happening during the show. Because that's what friends are for, right?
I don't really expect or even want a response. I just really need to let her know what's going on.
She tolerates my craziness. She's a good friend. Thank you, Bingmama, for tolerating my craziness and being a good friend.
My texts to her went something like this:
"Texas forever."
"Oh, Lila Garrity. Bless her."
"I'm in love with Coach Eric Taylor."
"Oh, Jason is screaming at her. Poor Lila."
"Poor Riggins."
"Coach Taylor <3"
"And now Lila is beating Riggins up. And now they are kissing! Oh my!"
"Poor Street."
"Man, Buddy Garrity is nuts. The whole town is nuts."
"Is Matt's dad in prison or military?"
(That's when I got a text back from her: "Military."
"I love Mrs. Coach."
"She is a riot."
"Oh haha. Coach told Matt to take a girl out and all that. It's his DAUGHTER! Hahahaha"
"Interesting camera angles."
"Matt is a sweet boy."
"The party. How hilarious."
"Man, this show is so good."
And alllll those texts may or may not have been in one night. And maybe in a thirty minute time span.
See above mention of how Bingmama tolerates me.
I toned it down last night. And only sent her seven messages. Mostly about how I think Coach Taylor is hawt.
I'm also still in Season 1.
And yes, I cried during Homecoming Week.
Issues, people. I've got issues.
Have a good day, people.
Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose.
Sorry, couldn't resist that.

Tuning in.
So I'm the last person on the planet to find the show known as Friday Night Lights.
I know, I know...
I don't watch much TV. Well, *real* TV. I watch lots of sports and such.
And lots of Bigfoot by default.
But no real show.
So I decided to just find me a TV series and watch it. So FNL it was. And, thanks to the fabby Netflix, was able to in to Season 1 Episode 1.
And I watched it. And I am hooked. And I can't wait to find out what happens with Coach Eric Taylor.
Texas Forever.

Seven on seven seven
Today is July 7th.
So here are seven summer on seven seven.
1. The Man Cave has been razed. Coop put up a 2-man tent in its place, but it only lasted a day because he said it got too hot in there. When we put the tent up, Cooper climbed in, said, "There's a bone in here!" and came out holding a leg bone. Yes, some sort of 12" animal leg bone. The tent was used on a camping trip by the youth group earlier in the summer. A few questions on Sunday found the young man who had used our tent and discovered the bone. The interrogation ended when he said, "Did you find the jaw bone too?"
2. My newest toenail polish color obsession is Essie Geranium. It's kind of orange-ish and red-ish and is the color of, well, a geranium. It's divine.
3. Jordan is gone. Again. I really don't think she has been home for more than 24 hours any day this summer. It's just like a little whirlwind. Kind of blows in, then blows out.
4. Cooper has been honing his magic trick skills this summer. He already played with his magic set quite a bit, but has been fueled by the 96 episode Mindfreak marathon earlier in the summer. Some of the tricks are actually pretty good. Some need quite a bit of work. And some, ummmmm.... Last night he had a bandana on the Bloggie Doggie's head and was saying, "I will now turn the dog head into a cat head and then back into a dog head!" Well, it was an effective and very speedy trick. Because I totally missed the cat head part. Voila!
5. Strawberry banana smoothies are where it's at.
6. Netflix has been the most awesomest of awesome things for us this summer. Seriously, how did we live without this?
7. The Captain and Cooper have been watching lots of shows involving alligators, snakes, rats, and Sasquatch. I'm glad the current craze for them is Whose Line Is It Anyway. Cause that's quality television right there.

Icky weekend
Well, you can add 51 episodes of Billy the Exterminator and the completion of all episodes of Drake & Josh to the list of Recently Viewed Netfix Shows. That's on top of, as you'll remember, 96 episodes of Mindfreak.
Ever seen that Exterminator show? I've had my share of icky things over the last few days. Snakes and roaches and rats. Oh my.
And gators. The Exterminator Guy catches gators too.
And if I didn't get enough gators from the exterminator show, there's another show allll about gators.
The Captain and Coop are also tackling Swamp People. Which is apparently about some folks in Louisiana who hunt gators. And the people are slightly difficult to understand, what with their heavy Cajun accent and all. It's a train wreck people. I can't tear myself away from it. But I can't bear to watch it. All I know is, every once in awhile, The Captain and Cooper will yell - in their best Cajun voice - "Choot em! Choot em!!" Which is apparently Cajun Gator Hunt talk for Shoot Him referencing said gator. And it's apparently a huge part of the show and a legit thing. Because I found this.
Sadly for the Captain and Cooper, there is only one season of Swamp People available on Netflix. Looks like our days of gator hunting are short-lived.
So, Netflix.... It's keeping my family entertained these days. $7.99 a month. Actually, we might still be in our two week free trial. Yeah, I'd say we're getting our money's worth. In an ick kind of way.
Be jealous of my exciting life.
Happy Monday. Peace out people.

Stuff
Confession: I really don't care that Meredith Viera is leaving the Today Show. I also didn't care that Oprah ended her show. I didn't care when Katie Whatshername left either. Am I the only one? Doesn't really change my life any. I'm not all sad. I'm just like....whatever. Maybe the straw on all that was when they did a little spot about the challenges Meredith has being a "working mom". Hahahahahahaha. I laughed all the way to work to volleyball practice to the church devo to the grocery store to the birthday party about that.
In other news, Jordan had an unexpected root canal yesterday -- just a little tooth problem that she has had for a year. She's fine. I gave her some drugs and sent her to bed. The end.
And finally, the high temp today is 97. Yummy. It's hot people.
Since I don't really have anything else to talk about today and it's so stinking hot, I will leave you with this little gem. It's also yummy. And hot.

Memorial Day Magic
So we got Netflix.
I know, I know. We're probably the last folks on the planet not to have it.
It is pretty cool.
It has changed our life.
Well, that's kind of an extreme statement.
Maybe not CHANGED our life, but sure has added a nice element.
Movies and TV shows - old and new - available instantly.
Personally, I'm beyond excited that I found seven seasons of Emergency. Yes, Squad 51. Connie and I used to watch that all the time. Paramedic Johnny Gage. Yes. Good times, people. Good times.
Cooper has found Mindfreak.
He loves Mindfreak.
Obsessed with it.
As in, thinking he can make himself levitate and make the dog disappear.
I'm hoping he can make some of this laundry disappear too.
There are 96 episodes available.
He's on episode 41.
That is what we'll be doing today.
Plowing through 20 more episodes of Mindfreak.
Jordan is at the lake with friends riding around on a boat getting her tan on.
The Captain is on a trip with a church group camping in the great outdoors.
Coop and I will be watching Mindfreak.
Unless I can convince him to watch Columbo or Cosby Show or Hawaii Five-Oh.
We'll be eating leftover grilled porkchops.
Not very Memorial Day-ish.
But I'm so happy to be home with my smallest guy today.
And I'm thankful for those who have served our country and who continue to do so.
So go forth, people, and enjoy your day.
PS - If I could ask you to pray for my bestie friend, Bingmama. She lost her dad yesterday. And that makes me very sad.

Summer blah blah blah
Random summer thoughts on this lovely Thursday morning....
Cooper has been going to a camp at church this week. He informed me that tonight they will be having a "cook-out and bomb-fire". Be very afraid.
I don't watch many shows on TV. All I will usually watch is Law & Order and lots of Something-Ball Games. However, we have now started watching BONES. My sister's affection for the show rubbed off on my daughter who then turned me on to it.
Speaking of TV shows....Jordan wanted to watch a new summer series on ABC Family Tuesday night. The previews looked kind of interesting. Appealing to teens I guess. OK, we'll tune in and give it a chance. During the first twenty minutes of the show, we saw a girl smoking pot, two girls almost kissing, a married man having an affair, a high school student having a relationship with her teacher, and two girls shoplifting. Ummmmm, no thanks. Won't be watching THAT show at my house. There is no "Family" in ABC Family. Not my family anyway. The end. {steps off soap-box}
I love ice cream sandwiches.
My friend, Bingmama, is having some pretty major knee surgery today. Say a little prayer for her please. She will have to be compeltely off her feet for over a week. Hard for a mama to do that. She's been practicing using her crutches. I'm surprised she hasn't broken her good leg. Get well soon Bingmama. Although I'm sure you're not reading this today. If you are, I'm sure it's extra funny since you will be "under the influence".
I went for a walk this morning. The humidity level was hovering around 157%. I got my exercise and my sauna in at the same time.
Our new air conditioner is great and keeping us mucho coolio. But they are going to have to replace the motor or fan or fan in the motor or something like that, because it makes this humming noise. That's kind of loud. And sounds like a tornado siren. It's ok though. I'm not complaining. But every time the air kicks on, my kids run to the closet.
That's it for me today people! Be happy today people. And stay hydrated.

Five TV Shows I Do Not Watch
1. Dancing with the Stars
2. LOST
3. 24
4. Survivor
5. Biggest Loser
I know, I know. I live under a rock.
But I did go see South Pacific last night at The Orpheum and now I can't quit singing "There Is Nothing Like a Dame". So I've got that going for me today....

Now what?
The flame is extinguished. The Olympics are over. I am sad.

Except I didn't think it was so lovely yesterday at the men's hockey game. Where Canada beat USA. In overtime. Wow. What a game that was. A heart-stopping, heart-racing, heart-breaking game.
Who knows what we'll watch now that the Olympic games are over. Idol maybe. College hoops for sure. I am the only person in the universe who doesn't watch The Office or Lost. Yes, I know that's hard to believe. Please don't think less of me.
In the meantime, if anybody knows what happened to February, please let me know. Because apparently today is March 1.
Peace out people.

Take Five
Five shows I used to watch growing up
Happy Days
First show of the afternoon. It came on at 3:30 right when we got home from school. And yes, I had a crush on Potsie.
Brady Bunch
Oh how I wanted to live in the Brady house. The girls' room. That family room. Mike's den. Wow. And Marcia's clothes. The bomb. And I've never figured out why all six kids had to share one bathroom.
Charlie's Angels
OK what girl didn't want to grow up to be an Angel? And Farrah's hair. I longed for the perfect feathers. Be still my hot rolling heart. I blogged about the show awhile back. Wanna' read it again?
Land of the Lost
Remember this one? Marshall, Will and Holly...on a routine expedition... Sing along people.
Little House on the Prarie
What a good show. Except I always wanted to smack that Nellie Olesen.

The Awesome Digger
It's no secret that Cooper has a mild addiction to infomercials. Seriously. Boy is obsessed with "As Seen On TV" items. I dreaded breaking the news to him that Billy Mays had died.
Anyhoo, over the weekend, I was alerted to an item that I apparently needed in a very bad way. Or so he thought.
His little sales pitch went something like this....
"Mommmmmmmm --You need to get this.
It's a digger.
You know how you bend down to plant flowers and it makes your back hurt??
(And he demonstrated)
With this you don't have to bend down.
So your back will never hurt.It takes the hard work...Out of yard work.
It easily attaches to any drill.
And digs the holes for you.
Just. Like. That.
And it's only 19.99.
Plus if we call now we get the bonus drill.
You just stand up...
And it digs the holes.
(More demonstrating)
And then you plant your flowers.
And your back won't hurt.
We need to get this.
Seriously.
Here's the number.
(Doing his best Vanna White impersonation by slowly running his pointer finger across the number on the TV screen.)
It's called the Awesome Digger.
I mean the ....
(Rewinds tivo)
It's called the Awesome Auger (which he pronounces Awguh)
We need to get this.
Seriously."
Kid needs to go back to school.

New week. New look.
We interrupt this blog for a little facelift. Do you like?
The extra long weekend was great, great, great.
The weekend's weather was weird, weird, weird? Rain. Then sun. Then rain. Then sun. Then rain AND sun. Then thunder. Then sun. Then thunder AND sun. The clouds and sky looked odd all weekend too. Total. Nuts.
We went to Connie's house yesterday and ate like pigs. Yes we did. Yummy smoked pork shoulder. Beans, potato salad, corn salad, slaw, homemade ice cream (two freezers even!) Yum yum.
And we watched the Land of the Lost marathon on TV. And laughed our heads off. Yes we did. The so-called "special effects" looked like something from the 70's. Oh - wait....
The kids are still in school. Shoot me now. This is the last week. Two full days and two half days. Can we make it? It's real dicey people.
I hit the treadmill today for the first time since I broke my foot. And I must say, it felt pretty darn good.
Now back to our originally scheduled programming.
