So yeah, I'm watching the Royal Wedding.
It is the advantage of insomnia and an early wake up call.
It's all so very fairy-tale-ish, isn't it?
And it reminds me of Charles & Diana's wedding.
I was 15.
And Mom and Connie and I got up to watch it. In what, to my teenage world, was called "The Middle of the Night". Now, in my grown up world, I call 4 am "The Time My Alarm Clock Goes Off".
I still haven't gotten Kate and William a wedding gift. If anybody wants to go in on a group gift, hit me up.
OK, I'm signing off to go watch this fairy tale wedding.
Magic, people. Pure magic.
I think I'm gonna' cry.
Somebody save me a seat at the reception.
Peace out.

Must see TV
Anybody else watching the miner rescues?
I admit I didn't stay awake last night. And the last thing I remember hearing last night was the Captain saying, "There he is" as the first guy came up...
But I turned on the TV as soon as I got up, and they had just pulled up #7.
Maybe I didn't realize it takes that long to get them up to the surface.
Have I missed how they decide what order they will be going up?
Rock paper scissors maybe?
I don't think I would want to be first. But I also know I wouldn't want to be last....
Guess there will be coverage of this all day.
It's all pretty wow I think.

It's silly
Have these taken over your house?
They are SillyBandz. And that's what they are. Silly. Bands.
They are little rubber band bracelets. Shaped like different things. For all of you Children of the 80's, think Jelly Bands ala Madonna and Cindy Lauper. But in shapes.
Kids now are collecting them. And trading them. And wearing them. Wearing all of them. Wearing all of them that they own. All 79 of them. At once. Rumor has it that Davis in Mrs. K's class at school has them going from his wrist all the way up his forearm past his elbow! I cannot confirm or deny that current urban legend that is being talked about in the school cafeteria.
I did see a 50-ish woman at Target last week wearing about 10 of them. I stared at her.
I don't even know where you can get them. The Captain's mother bought some for Cooper. The rest he has wheeled and dealed to secure. And I think they also multiply on his arms overnight.
Cooper says these are currently the most popular ones for trading...the cross, the dove, the person, and the "flying deer" (also known as a reindeer I believe)

Or animals....

I'm fond of the bunnies myself.....Because I love bunnies.

This is one of Cooper's favorites. Yes, that's his favorite team. He's slightly misguided and has fallen under the influence of my sister's family....(Connie, comments currently disabled for you...)

He also likes this water bottle too. But I think the blue should be on the bottom like the water and the white should be on the top like the bottle. Oh well, they didn't ask me.

Have a silly day people. I love you!

Two for the price of one
Random thoughts....
What a wild week it has been. For a news junkie like me, there's been lots to keep up with. And it's hard to be on top of all this breaking news. Especially since I work. Because while I'm here, they really kind of expect me to work. I know. At times it is totally style-cramping. There are days I can't get anything done because of this work business. OK....on to the issues at hand.
The Governor who
The resignation of our Mayor. Amen. Personally, I think this story is not yet over. So stay tuned.
The death of Michael Jackson! Seriously. How out of the blue was that. No lie - I had just been emailing a friend about "Who would be the third celeb death?" and we said oh maybe Walter Cronkite or Patrick Swayze. I hit send -- opened up Twitter -- and there is was. The King of Pop -- DEAD. And I think if you can get past the weirdness (I know, I know - there's a lot of weirdness to get past), his music was just so good. Everybody join me in a few bars of Billie Jean. While we dance. On the floor. In the round. Good stuff people. Repeat after me: Mama-se. Mama-sa. Mama-coo-sa.
And yes, I drove the Captain nuts yesterday when I would only respond to him with Michael Jackson lyrics.
And all he would say to me this morning while I was singing was "McCauley Caukin".
Anyhoo, for those of us who grew up in the 70's and 80's, we relived lots of memories yesterday.
Oh - and don't forget that Shaq is now a Cavalier.
And Antonio Anderson didn't get drafted. *sniff*
Jordan is home from camp. I just emptied her whole suitcase in the washer. She heads out again on Monday for another camp. So I'll just lather, rinse,
So I think that's it for me.
Unless we get yet more nutty news today.
Peace out.

Can you make the commitment?
Of course the election results were the buzz everywhere yesterday. There was certainly a lot of chatter on the blogs that I follow. I think one of the best ones was found right here. Michael Hyatt made his four commitments to Barack Obama.
1. I will pray for him and our country.
2. I will assume his motives are good, giving him the benefit of the doubt.
3. I will not speak ill of him, even if I don’t always agree with him.
4. I will cast off the spirit of cynicism, and be a positive force for good.

Who's it gonna' be?
Welcome Election Day. I'm so glad you are finally here. I don't know about you, but I'm so tired of constantly hearing about it on the news and watching all those obnoxious commercials. Let's just vote and be done with it. And tonight, hopefully, we will know who will be the next president.
While there may be focus groups and opinion polls and political pundits, there seem to be more accurate indicators of election results. Check out these time-tested predictors:
Kids vote -- Since 1956, the Weekly Reader has polled students in grades 1 through 12 on their presidential preference. Apparently you can't kid a kid. They have correctly chosen the winner in 12 out of the last 13 elections. (My kids did this yesterday at school and they were so excited. They had little voter registration cards and everything. Jordan was even a poll worker....)
Washington Redskins -- In 18 out of the last 19 elections, when the Redskins have won their final home game prior to the election, the incumbent has held the White House. The one exception to the Redskins Rule was 2004, when the Green Bay Packers beat the Redskins, but John Kerry still went on to lose to President Bush. Last night, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Washington Redskins in a blowout, predicting a possible Obama landslide.
7-Eleven coffee -- For the last few weeks 7-Eleven has been giving coffee-drinking customers a taste of the November general election by offering them a choice between two coffee cups: blue for Obama or red for McCain. Caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee drinkers alike have been weighing in on the presidential election via the coffee cup they choose. Results? Some 60% of the franchise chain's coffee drinkers nationwide have chosen the blue Barack Obama cup versus 40% who preferred the red John McCain.
Cookies -- For the last three presidential elections, the readers of Family Circle magazine have correctly predicted the winner in the Cookie Cook-Off. This year, Cindy McCain's oatmeal-butterscotch cookies received 54% of the vote and her winning recipe is in the November issue. Michelle Obama's shortbread cookies nabbed 44%.

Santa will have to relocate
The North Pole is melting. Seriously, I just read this on Yahoo News. They say that this year, all the ice is expected to melt on the pole as a result of global warming. This is the first time in human history this has happened and will allow ships to sail over the top of the world. Nuts I tell you.
