Bookish

I've been reading reading reading.

I've read five books in the last three weeks.

And I have more books queued up in my beloved Kindle.

Including one recommendation from my pal JuJu.

But I've got to be careful when I read that one because she said she cried when she read it.  Actually she said she bawled during an entire 90 mile car trip.

And, if I'm reading this during down times at volleyball tournaments, that could be a problem.

Although I've been known to have a big ol' ugly cry when the only match standing between me and the highway is the one we are reffing and goes to three sets.

So there may not be much difference there.

If I had my way, I'd hang out here all day and read read read.

But I gotta bring home the bacon.

So there's that.

Some stuff

Three shows I want to start watching:

Downton Abbey.
The Office.
Parenthood.

Anybody watch those?

These days I am slightly addicted to Chopped these days. And Cupcake Wars.

And we've been making the Captain watch, too.

I figured it wouldn't hurt to throw in some sort of a cooking show every once in awhile to counter balance all the Bigfoot viewing.

And, I want to read more books this year.

Anybody have any recommendations.

That's all.

Oh, and my kids successfully made it out the door for school.  Dressed and everything.  Success.

Captain and Custer

This is what the Captain is reading.

For "fun".

Ummmmm....

It's CUSTER.

Not CUSTARD.

I think Custard would be fun.

Custer? Not so much.

Summer reading

Jordan: I'm halfway through my book.

Me
: Your FIRST book. You still have another book - what's that one?

Jordan: The Time Machine. What's that about?

Me: Ummmm. I've never read it. I guess it's about a machine. That tells time.

Jordan: Mom, that would be a CLOCK.

Wrong way

So yesterday was yet another exciting day at the Casa de Angie128. And by exciting, I mean I was off work again and spent the day playing Mario Kart, eating Cheez-Its, and introducing Cooper into that fine summer tradition known as Required Summer Reading.

He has to read "Sounder". I don't recall having to read that one. And I'm pretty sure it's a sad animal story - as in Sounder goes to Dog Heaven. No like.

Cooper successfully made it through Chapter 1 - WOOT! Small victories, people.

I am not having many victories in the Mario Kart arena. For some reason, my Kart always gets turned around and I end up going the wrong way around the track.

And it plays out something like this....

The Captain screams "YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY!"

And I say, "NO I'M NOT!"

And he says, "DON'T YOU SEE THOSE ALL THOSE ARROWS SAYING TURN AROUND?!?!?"

Well, OBVIOUSLY I didn't or I wouldn't have been going the wrong way.

Humph.

No Mario Kart, Man Cave or Summer Reading for me until tonight. I'm headed to that place called Work.

Ciao!

I'm quiet this morning.

I don't have much to say today....

If I were going to talk about the heartbreaking loss by my Hogs on Saturday, I would say that they looked so good and gave Florida all they could handle. And I would say that the defense was politely, yet firmly, introducing itself to Mr. Tebow all afternoon. And I would say that there were a few questionable calls in the 4th quarter (that even the commentators said were wrong) that probably cost us the game. And I would say that I screamed a lot. A lot. And I would say that a 3 point loss to a #1 team favored by 25 points played on their own hostile home field is still a mighy fine showing. But I'm not talking about the game. (Wooooo Pig Sooooie!)

I also am not going to talk about the Tennessee Titans who are now 0-6. And they got their Tennessee Titan tails handed to them on a snowy field in New England yesterday. Ugh. Handed to them as in 59-0. Yes, that was the score. But I'm not mentioning that.

I'm not going to talk about my current season of being a parent of a tweenage girl and everything that goes with that. And that this weekend it primarliy involved being a taxi service to various social and youth group related events. Drive, drive, drive. But no, I'm not getting into all that either.

I'm also not even getting into telling you about going to a book signing for a long-time friend of mine. Who has a real book. Like a real live book. And how neat it was to see some of my old co-workers from a long time ago. And how proud I am of her. And also how I am a teeny tiny bit jealous because I want to write a book too. And I had an always-very-honest-with-me friend who recently gave me some of my own what for and dished it back to me the same way I apparently dish it to others, "You. Should. Write. A. Book. Youshouldwriteabook!" But anyway, I'm not going to get into how fun it was to see some long-ago friends. Nor am I going to talk about how I want to write a book, but am just a big chicken. (Seriously, though, check out my friends book over on the right side of my blog. I am reading it right now. Quite entertaining so far. I am very happy for her. )

I won't mention how we spent our whole weekend on the run doing a lot of different stuff. Stuff that involved books, soccer balls, race cars, dead people, teen hangouts, and purses. (Yes, I said dead people. That was Captain-related business.) And we weren't home much at all. And I'm not very rested either. And now it's Monday. And I'm still working on laundry. (And I may or may not be sitting here dressed for work from the waist up, but also sporting a pair of pink pajama pants with green turtles on them, waiting for some pants to come out of the dryer.) Cause none of that is worth mentioning.

Nope. I'm not talking about any of those things.

So, I guess I really don't have much to say.

Except peace out people. Happy Monday.

Twilight Tuesday

Two little shots of the Bloggie Doggie posing with his favorite toy. He *loves* this frisbee. When he's inside, he stands at the door and whines to go out and play with the frisbee. When he's outside, he will stand at the door and whine for you to come out and play with him and the frisbee. He will bring it back to you as long as you throw it for him. Look how happy he is.

I finished reading the 2nd book of the Twilight series on Sunday. It is a vampire book series which is quite the rage among young teens. The writer, Stephenie Meyer, also has one book geared more for adults. A friend of mine, and also the Captain's sister, are hooked on the whole vampire story thing. I read the first one fully intending on NOT reading the second one, but I must admit, I got a little hooked and had to see what was going to happen next. They are both pretty good sized books - over 500 pages each. I can't believe I've read two of them in two weeks (with one of those weeks being spent in Disney). They were both a good little read, but I'm not sure I'll press on with the final two. The first book, Twilight, will also be a movie which comes out in November. What about you people? Have you read them? Do you love Edward?

Make today a good one people! Peace out!!

We love a good book

Made a little trip to the library this morning. I had to return my unfinished Harlan Coben. I had only read 10 pages and checked it out twice so it had to go back. I'll pick it up again. I grabbed a Dean Koontz that I've been looking for. I do like his newer stuff. His old (original I guess) stuff is too freaky for me.

The kids got some books too.

As we were leaving, Jordan said, "Mom, thanks for teaching us to read and teaching us to like to read." And she talked about when you read, you can always have friends, and go on adventures, and solve mysteries and how much she just enjoyed reading.

It made me feel really good.

Miscellany on a Tuesday Morning

I finished the James Patterson book last night. It was ok, definitely not one of his best. It was kind of weird actually. The girl can see the future and sees dead people. A very different book for him I think. For me for sure. I'm digging into a new Harlan Coben tonight.

Maureen McCormick turns 52 today. She is better known as Marcia Brady.

Brett Favre didn't show up for training camp yesterday. The Packers got Ari Fleischer to speak to the team last week. He's the former White House Press Secretary who now has his own sports communications company. Will Favre try out for his old job? Will the Packers trade him? What a total circus all of this is.

The Yankees - coming off a huge win on Sunday - lost to the Rangers last night after a walk off grand slam. Boo. Giambi shaved his 'stache. I still heart Derek Jeter.

Tropical Storm Edouard is making landfall today in the Port Arthur/Galveston area. I'm concerned about the Captain's sister who lives in Houston and is in direct aim of Ed, but reports are they will only get some heavy rain.

Cooper was very proud of his freshly cleaned teeth last night. I made him smile at me to show me and he said, "I'm like those people on tv who smile and their teeth sparkle and show diamonds and go 'ting ting'."

I fought my sleepy eyes last night and stayed up to watch what I thought was the season finale of The Mole, only to discover it is continued to next week. Anybody else watching that? Who do you think is The Mole? It's the only reality type show that I watch. And actually I don't think many people watch it anyway. Too bad.

The Bloggie Doggie's favorite Olympic sport is fencing. He challenges all of you people to a duel.

This post was all over the place. But that sums it up people. Have a super day.

Book 'Em

I didn't finish reading the last two books I posted on here. I realized about 10 pages into the first one, "Sam's Letters to Jennifer" by James Patterson, that I had read it before. This last one, "Echo Park" by Michael Connelly, I just couldn't get into. This one came with huge recommendation by Connie - I'm sorry Connie. I'll try it again later. It just wasn't clicking with me.

So this morning at the library, I found this James Patterson that I haven't read yet. I also checked out four Harlan Coben books - I've been digging him lately too.

Go read a book people.

Done

Just finished "Sail" by James Patterson. I only had about 10 more pages to go, so it didn't take long. It was ok - definitely a quick read. And I do enjoy his stuff. A little far fetched I guess, but then again, it is fiction.

Now I'm back to the Lisa Gardner books. "Gone" is the next one up for me.

Stupid, Lucky, 174, 460, Pretty

What a total idiot Matt Jones is. Did you hear about this? Unbelievable.

I picked the kids up from Mom's and we ran to the library to check some books out for them and renew two of my books. (I'm so glad my kids like to read.) I lucked into the new James Patterson book Sail. So I will hold off on the Lisa Gardner and start this one first. His books are always a quick read, so I should be finished with it this weekend.

Then we went by Hope Church to get our race packets for Saturday's 5k.

Then I got home, opened my mail, and saw this.

I promptly did this.

I was upset and mad for awhile. Then I went outside to listen to the rain. And I saw this

Which made it all better. At least for a little while.

Sunny Sunday

I've enjoyed sitting outside reading my book - the latest in the Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson. I've got about 75 more pages to go. Hope to finish it tonight. It's a good one. Fast and easy read for sure. It was a bit warm, but the sun felt good.

Our Team in Training party yesterday was fun. The weather cooperated and it wasn't actually too hot. Nice of Coach George to have us all over. It was fun to see everybody again and to meet some of the Country Music marathoners. We all shared our marathon stories and future marathon plans. Nice time had by all. I am really thinking about signing up for the St. Jude Half Marathon which is in early December. I still have time to make a decision and then start my training.

I set my alarm last night for 4:00 am this morning to get up and do some Pilates. Seemed like a good idea at the time....I'll attempt that again tomorrow.

In the meantime, Gauge would like a biscuit.....he hangs around the pantry and begs.....

Finally, in case you were wondering, Kris Kristofferson turns 72 and Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman!!!) turns 59 today. And, today is National Chocolate Eclair Day!

Two are sleeping in on Saturday

I finished reading The Last Lecture last night. If you haven't read it, you should. Some great thoughts in there about LIVING. I lucked out at the library yesterday and got one of James Patterson's newest. It's the 7th one of his Women's Murder Club series. Anxious to dive into that one.

Right now, it's 8am. Jodi is at Lifeblood donating platelets. Gauge is sleeping under my desk. And one kid is still sleeping. But, it's Cooper! Unbelievable. He's never the last one up.

Some regular Saturday chores on my agenda today. Then this afternoon we are having our Team in Training party at George's house! I'm excited to see everybody again.

I've been memed!

A meme is an internet neologism used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads in a fast way from person to person via the internet. There is a lot of tagging and/or memeing on blogs. It's kind of like chain mail via the internet. You get 'tagged' by someone on their blog to answer some questions and then you 'tag' other people. (Lots of new vocabulary here tonight....)

So, I've been tagged by Abby aka i'm not neurotic. My mission is:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

My passage comes from the book I'm currently reading. The Next Accident by Lisa Gardner.

Two miles from the Olsen residence, Rainey pulled over her car and killed the ignition. Despite her earlier composure, her hands had started trembling. The adrenaline was ebbing from her bloodstream, leaving her light-headed in its wake.

Thanks for the tag Abby!

Since I don't know if (1) anybody even READS this blog and (2) anybody who does read this blog HAS a blog, I'll just improvise here. If anybody wants to play along, just put your 3 sentences down there in the comments section and consider yourself tagged.
