Seriously, people. I have sleep deprivation as a direct result of staying up too late watching the Olympics.
I know. Just go to bed. But it's just hard to quit watching. I love it so.
And, in other news, for two days in a row, I got up and rode my bike. Be impressed.
Yesterday morning I rode 11 miles.
I was sore all day.
My fat hurt.
Yeah, I'm a future Olympian.
OK, me and my sore fat are headed to work.

ouch
So my bike was delivered on Friday.
That was fast.
It was delivered in a box.
It was super heavy.
I tried to move it in the house by myself.
That was stupid.
I twisted my knee.
What a goober.
The Captain put it together for me on Saturday.
But I haven't been on it yet.
Probably this week.
My knee feels better today.
Guess I could tell folks I had a biking accident.
I'm a total goober.

bought a bike
So I just bought a bike.
Not a ride in the street bike.
A sit in the playroom and watch Netflix and read a book and bike in the air conditioning bike.
Yeah, I just bought it.
At 6 o'clock in the morning.
Click, click, click.
It's easy when my account stuff is all saved in there.
Too easy sometimes.
Click.
Done.
So, it should be here next week.
Gonna' be interesting.
Stay tuned.

Can't. Move.
I started a new exercisey thing this week.
Just a simple little 20 minute DVD with a tiny little 4 lb kettlebell.
I thought that it sounded easy enough.
And silly me even wondered if the four pound weight would be enough.
Let me assure you that it is.
Because right now I'm so sore all over my body I can hardly lift my arms up to the keyboard to type this.
And squatting down to pick something up? Forget it. It can stay down there on the floor forever as far as I'm concerned.
The DVD exercise gal made pretty good use of her 20 minutes because I was totally dripping when it was all said and done.
I had to get serious and do something about this situation where I look like a female version of the Michelin Man. I guess that would make me the Michelin Woman.
Actually, I was on a good path with the whole "Drop some weight" thing until the holidays arrived.
And you know, I never met a sausage ball I didn't like.
Anyway, those kettlebells....they are sneaky little devils. But from what I've read the kettlebell thing is supposed to be a pretty good way to go.
We'll see.
Pass the Icy Hot.
And have a nice weekend.

Don't break a hip when you hop
I almost died last night.
Somehow, Connie convinced me to go to a dancey exercise class thing with her.
Yes. I said dancey and exercise.
She must have caught me in a weak moment.
She told me there were usually about five or six people. Mostly middle-age and "figure-challenged". OK, cool. I'm the poster child for that group.
Ummmm, last night there were almost 30 people.
Including an older gentleman who I was certain I could out-dance. Bring it Pops. Then he took off his sweatshirt and revealed his 28-pack abs and major buffy arms. Humph.
It was a really odd mix of people. Really. Odd.
I'm still not sure what we did.
An hour of hip-hop, Latin, jive dancing stuff with a lot of "SHAKE IT! SHAKE IT! SHAKE IT!" mixed in.
Huh? I'm supposed to do WHAT with my WHAT?
Call the paramedics.
Oh and there were plenty of body rolls. People, the only roll on my body is the one right around my middle, affectionately known as my Food Baby.
I was reminded that I am an out-of-shape, middle aged white woman with no rhythm. And I apparently can't count to three. Or tell the difference between my left and my right.
But it was fun. I think.
Word.

Yes No Monday
Yes, it was hot this weekend.
No, I did not watch LOST.
No, I have never watched LOST.
Yes, the Captain has been fishing down in Florida.
Yes, he and two friends are piloting their own boat.
No, he has not gotten lost at sea.
Yes, I told him not to do something that would get him on CNN.
Yes, I asked him to give me a little notice if he thought he was getting lost at sea so I could start looking for a good headshot if the rescue story went national.
Yes, I'm always thinking of the PR angle of it all.
Yes, he has caught a few fish.
No, they are not big enough or in season so he won't keep them.
Yes, I think they are oil-tainted anyway.
Yes, I did some horrendous Jillian Whatshername exercise DVD this weekend.
Yes, I thought I was going to die.
Yes, I am so sore today I can hardly lift my hands up to the keyboard.
Yes, my legs feel like noodles.
Yes, Cooper and I watched a ton of college baseball this weekend.
No, Jordan didn't watch much of it.
Yes, but when she did she would say things like, "Hello fine boy."
Yes, she is out of school.
No, Cooper is not.
Yes, it's Monday.
No, I'm not happy about that.
Yes, let's have a good day anyway.

New week. New look.
We interrupt this blog for a little facelift. Do you like?
The extra long weekend was great, great, great.
The weekend's weather was weird, weird, weird? Rain. Then sun. Then rain. Then sun. Then rain AND sun. Then thunder. Then sun. Then thunder AND sun. The clouds and sky looked odd all weekend too. Total. Nuts.
We went to Connie's house yesterday and ate like pigs. Yes we did. Yummy smoked pork shoulder. Beans, potato salad, corn salad, slaw, homemade ice cream (two freezers even!) Yum yum.
And we watched the Land of the Lost marathon on TV. And laughed our heads off. Yes we did. The so-called "special effects" looked like something from the 70's. Oh - wait....
The kids are still in school. Shoot me now. This is the last week. Two full days and two half days. Can we make it? It's real dicey people.
I hit the treadmill today for the first time since I broke my foot. And I must say, it felt pretty darn good.
Now back to our originally scheduled programming.

Thank you Sir, may I have (half) another
OK people. Guess what I've done? I've signed up to run in the St. Jude Half Marathon. It's December 6.
I started back on the treadmill last week after being on the D.L. for 12+ weeks from my tibial stress fracture. I am taking it very slowly. Very. Slowly. I do NOT want to risk any injury again.
Running the marathon in June was truly one of my greatest accomplishments of my life and I would not trade that experience for anything. But I am beyond certain that I don't want to run another full marathon. No way. No thanks. It definitely took its toll on my body. Plus, the training for a full is just a huge commitment. The training was difficult. The recovery was challenging. (My toenail still has not grown out....) Face it -- I'm old people.
So I'll tackle another half. I have completed one other official half marathon - the Germantown Half Marathon - last March. And definitely put in the equivalent of half marathon mileage each weekend during my marathon training. But I've lost quite a bit of that conditioning after the stress fracture.
This effort may be more of a walk/run rather than a run/walk, but I know I can do this. I know there are many participants who walk the entire half marathon. They are capping the entries for the half marathon at 8,000. It's a good sized race. Last year, there were over 5,700 runners in the half and the slowest time was 4:47:00. So I could possibly be at the FRONT of the back. Ha Ha.
Anyhoo, the course looks great. It is described as being "relatively flat" (hooray since I HATE HILLS!). And goes by lots of downtown Memphis landmarks includnig the Forum, the Orpheum, the Pyramid, Beale Street and the zoo. It finishes in AutoZone Park, home of the Memphis Redbirds.
Wish me luck people.

A little rest and a big rock
The Bloggie Doggie usually sits behind the Captain's chair while I do my exercising in the morning. Basically, he just doesn't care. See?

Guess where we're going to be tonight? No, not volleyball practice. Or soccer practice. Nope, not a volleyball game. Not a soccer game either. We're not going to church or a school function. Do you give up? We're going to be AT HOME! Yes, people we're going to be home tonight. It's almost too good to be true. This will be the first night we have been home since August 30. I actually looked at the calendar several times thinking something must have been omitted or scheduled on the wrong day. But it's true. Home. I can't wait.
Think beyond yourself today people. Ciao!

Is it only Tuesday?
Well, what did you watch last night since there was no swimming, diving, track & field or volleyball? Cooper and I watched the Scooby Doo marathon we had tivo'd from Sunday. Then we watched Deal or No Deal. Did anybody watch the Democratic Convention? Are you going to?
The kids brought the beautiful muave vinyl beanbag down from the playroom over the weekend to lay in and watch movies. The Bloggie Doggie thinks it's a perfect doggie bed.

A new boxing and stability ball workout for me today. The boxing is actually kind of fun. Quite the workout on the arms for sure. Then she did some boxing moves ON the ball. A little tricky. I was bouncing all over the den jabbing and undercutting. Whew! Off day for the pushups.
Nothing else to report on this Tuesday morning. Have a happy day people!

Half Way There

This week begins Week 4 of the six-week Hundred Push Up Challenge and it looks something like this:
Day 1: 16, 13, 13, 11, 16
Day 2: 16, 14, 14, 12, 15
Day 3: 20, 15, 15, 15, 18
It appears that this is a little bit of a step back week, but still challenging nonetheless.
Don't worry people. I knocked out my 69 pushups this morning!

Stayin' awake for the U. S. of A.
Who stayed up to watch the US women win the gold in beach volleyball!? Very exciting - they are so good. They're cute too - it was fun to see how excited they were after their win. They even gave a shout out to the Prez. I did NOT stay up to watch the women win the semi in the regular court volleyball. I believe their game started at 1am central time. Ummm, no thanks. Would love to see it, but just not possible. They play the winner of the Brazil-China match on Saturday. But I'm not sure when it's going to be aired - Friday night maybe? Uncertainty here people. I really, really REALLY love the Olympics, but my sleep is suffering. Killing me. The beach v'ball game didn't BEGIN until 10pm. Yawn.........

More pushups for me this morning. I'm working back through week 3. I also did a "Stretch Max" show. I don't like this girl as much as the girl on my regular "In Shape" show. This chick drives me a bit nuts because she prefaces every move with "Now what you're going to do is....". She says that before Every. Single. Move. Quite annoying.
Google is taking it to the high jump today.
We've got two more days before the weekend. Hang in there people. Peace. Out.

There's more to see

We watched the women's beach volleyball last night. We're playing for gold Wednesday night I believe. Those girls are good and it's been fun to watch. (And, continuing to support their fellow USA athletes, Kobe and LeBron were in the stands watching the v'ball game too.)
Perhaps one of my favorite Googles so far.....Have I told you how much I heart these things?

Phelps is Phabulous
Another amazing night of swimming by Michael Phelps. Did you watch it? He won
his 10th & 11th gold medals last night making him the greatest athlete in Olympic history. Ever. He's the Golden Boy. This is a good article that sums it up. Says he got a text from a friend before his meet that said "Time to be the best ever." Kind of gives me chills to read that. He still set a world record even though his goggles were full of water. I heard Bob Costas say last night something like, "It's so easy for him; he can even do it with his eyes closed." He's just awesome. Even Kobe Bryant and LeBron James went to see him swim. Want to see a Phelps tracker? This neato little chart compares Phelps to Mark Spitz.
I am LOVING watching the Olympics, but man oh man is it ever messing with my sleep. I do *not* stay up this late. Even on the weekends. And these 11:00pm and 11:30pm bedtimes are not working with my 4:00am alarm clock...It's killing me. But it is my patriotic duty to stay up and root for the good ol' U. S. of A. I did consider sleeping in this morning, but got up before I could totally convince myself. A little pilates for me. (I have really grown to love this pilates stuff.) Off day for the pushups.
My sincerest blogger apologies for not updating you people yesterday about Cooper and The Belt Situation. I know there were hundreds of you who stayed up even later than the end of the televised Olympics just refreshing your browser over and over in hopes that I would post an update on his day. So sorry to leave you hanging. He had a very successful day and was a frequent visitor to the bathroom. I did find 2 new, hopefully easier to operate, belts. So, it appears that we are closing the chapter of The Belt Situation.
I asked him last night to tell me one neato thing that happened at school. Funny how I received the exact answer I got on Monday. "Recess was awesome." Jordan just "loves 6th grade so much" and has begun every sentence with "Guess what?!"
Isn't this little guy cute?! I don't need to remind you how much I love those Google Guys.

Phelps is Phantastic

I continue to be amazed by Michael Phelps. He is just so awesome to watch isn't he? He won his 9th gold yesterday which ties him with 4 other Olympiads (one of which is Mark Spitz) for the most Olympic medals in history. I heard last night that he is supposed to eat between 8,000 and 10,000 calories a day. Yet, he still weighs only 195. Here's a great little article that breaks down each of his swimming strokes.
We are all just totally digging the Olympics. Cooper was actually watching France vs. Korea in boxing last night. I am really enjoying the swimming this year - maybe more than I have before. I also am anxious to see the track and field.
Week 3
Day 1: 15, 12, 12, 10, 15
Day 2: 16, 14, 14, 12, 15
Day 3: 20, 15, 15, 12, 16
It looks most intimidating don't you think people? I completed Day 1 this morning. I also did my In Shape show which was Pilates and Yoga. I have begun to really like the pilates, but the yoga is not for me. There are all kinds of odd moves and they each have names. One of them is called "upward facing dog" and "downward facing dog". Which look like this:

The 'dog poses' are, of course, the Bloggie Doggie's favorite poses. He gives them his own individual spin, but they look something like this:

And, for today's Google post......I heart those Google people I tell you.....I'm obsessed with these little things.....

And, for those of you who do not live in Jonasville, I must remind you that the brand new Jonas Brothers CD is released today! Jordan has been waiting for this day.....
She is certain that there will be a line outside Target this morning of people waiting to purchase this little item and it will be extremely difficult to find one. I am pretty certain I will be able to accomplish this mission with no trouble. The kids (and their mother) did survive the first day of school. Jordan came home talking nonstop about her day and how much she liked her teacher much better than she thought she was going to. Cooper was beyond quiet. He did say he had a good day and the only other thing I could get out of him was "recess was awesome". I also found out that he didn't go to the bathroom all day long because of The Belt Situation. I was very upset about that and cried to the Captain when he got home. I am now on the lookout for a

Flashback Friday
The staff at Me and My Good Life are excited to announce a new feature on the blog. Friday will now be "Flashback Friday" and will feature a photo of the Bloggie Doggie from his puppy years. It was actually the Bloggie Doggie's idea. Perhaps he was tired of the papparazi (puppyrazi?! Ha Ha! I crack myself up) and suggested digging back in the ol' archives. Anyhoo, here is the first installment of Flashback Friday....
Awwwww - Washn't he the cutisht thing you've ever sheen?
Today is a neato day. It's 8-8-08! How cool is that! Today is also the opening ceremonies of the Olympics! Let the games begin! Showing the Olympic spirit are those uber creative folks at Google. I heart those guys I tell you.
For the first time in over a month, I'm proud to say I have no Favre report. The only slightly related story is that the Jets cut Chad Pennington, but we all saw that coming anyway either with or without Favre probably. It's still not right. Brett Favre is a Packer. And it will be hard to see him in green and white instead of green and yellow. I wish it had ended differently. I'm at least glad it ended. Does it matter that he's still number 4? It's all just wrong.

And in the Funny How Kids' Brains Work department, I share this little tale: Jordan has an old laptop that only runs some games and Microsoft Word. On her list of things to do she had "Can you put the internet on a disk and run it? Ask Daddy."
Let's talk exercise. I completed the last day of Week 2 of the Push Up Challenge. I think I have to go retest before moving to Week 3. It is getting harder and harder. I did another In Shape show this morning. I've been doing those 3 or 4 days a week and am really loving them. Today was tai chi and kick boxing. The tai chi was a little odd. There wasn't a lot of stretching, but lots of breathing and "pushing the negative energy out of our body" whatever that means. The kick boxing was tough. I even worked up a little sweat. I looked like Rocky Balboa I tell you. You should have seen me with my upper cuts and jabs and weaves. You would have laughed your head off been very impressed.
TGIF people.

Thursday's updates
Update on the weather: It's a regular cold snap out there I tell you. Wow - only 92 today!?!? Grab a jacket. And the possibility of rain!?!? It's a 5 star day for sure!
Update on Brett Favre: Reports that the Packers have offered him a $20 million 'salary package' to stay away from Green Bay. That's nuts.

Consider yourselves updated people.

It's a stretch
I took the pushup test last night and was able to squeak out 10 girlie pushups. I'll start the first day's schedule tonight. I actually meant to do them this morning, but I forgot. I did another show that I tivo'd. This was called "Stretch Max" and it was pilates/yoga with a resistance band. Lots of good stretching. I'm so wishing I had found these shows while I was training for the marathon - they would have been great for cross training days. The Bloggie Doggie was sound asleep and snoring the whole time I was exercising very interested in the exercise show and was doing a little meditation himself while I was streching:

Day 2: 9, 8, 6, 5, 7

Yesterday it seemed like my eye and contact were really bothering me. By last night, I could really feel some irritation or something under my lid. And now this morning - wowie! It's really hurting. And my eyelid is even a little puffy, like it's irritated or something. I'm sporting the spectacles today and am hoping I can get in to see the doctor this morning.
Today is the 50th anniversary of NASA. Once again, another little shout out from Google. I love those guys.

And finally, proof that my kid watches too much TV:
Cooper: Do you know where the Joker lives?
Me: No where?
Cooper: I'll tell you....after the break.
Peace out people.

Pushing off to a new week
Back to the work week. I am off later in the week, but today it's back at it. Hard to get rolling in the work mode today since I've been off since Thursday afternoon. Lots of fun this long weekend even though the kids are getting a little tired of each other. Too much together time for them.
focus on strength training. I've got nothing to lose and only upper body strength to gain. I have NEVER been able to do a push up. Even a girly push up. But this is a progressive training program and really has something for everybody. You can do wall, bench, knee or regular push ups. At the end of 6 weeks, you should be able to do 100 consecutive push ups. Sounds a bit extreme, but hey, so did the thought of running a marathon and I did that. I have mentioned it to the Captain and he sounded interested. I'm going to print off the schedule today, take the initial test tonight, and get started tomorrow. It's a three day a week program, so really MWF works better for me. I'll have to shift it a little later. OK, here's to 100 push ups. Wish me luck! The Bloggie Doggie is not interested in taking the Hundred Push Up Challenge.

Wanting an end to this nutty week
I tivo'd a yoga show that I did this morning. Hmmmm. Not really my cup of tea. Maybe it was just new to me. It was lots of stretching - which I guess is what it's supposed to be. But it really did nothing to get me going this morning. The lady's voice that talked you through the exercises (which are actually called poses) was so soft and soothing and she talked like this. I could have just fallen back asleep laying there in the den floor. Definitely no way to get yourself up and at 'em. But it was better than nothing. I decided against checking out the show called "Shimmy" which is a belly dancing exercise show.

Speaking of Stephanie Plum, someone caught the newest Janet book, Fearless Fourteen, at the library and gave it to me rather than returning it. So, I'll start that this weekend. She said it was good, but there wasn't much Ranger in it. That's a crying shame. So once, again, that Lisa Gardner book gets shelved for a new release.
Did anybody see the moon early this morning? It was full and orange. Maybe a result from the Code Orange ozone levels or something? No relief in sight from this heat and humidity.

The Captain will be home late tonight (yea!) but will leave again on Sunday afternoon (boo!). I'm so glad he will be home so he can take over some of this mess and handle these wild kids and do some of this laundry and clean up dog puke and give me a break get some rest and just sit in his big chair and enjoy a relaxing night after his long week on the road. Especially since he's LEAVING AGAIN!!!
I'm just glad this nutty week is almost over. The Bloggie Doggie just wants a biscuit.

TGIF people!
