Well, let's see...let's recap what's been going on. Because I know you've all been sitting at your computer hitting refresh over and over waiting on an update from me.
I did put some fall decorations out and I bought some mum things.
I've got 15 paint chips taped to my front door while I try to decide on a color.
The Hogs didn't win. So, I'm running way to join the circus. It's tough being a Hog fan these days. A stranger came up and hugged me at the store the other day because I was wearing my shirt. "Poor thing... you still wearing that shirt?"
I did not wear flip flops to the game Friday night. I also did not get cold. I'm sure people still looked at me funny. Cause, well, they tend to do that.
We bought two replacement fish. One of them has already gone to Fish Heaven. We don't do so well with the ol' tank transition.
Currently residing in Fish Center: Lucy Ricardo, The Yellow Fish, Kane the 2nd, and Rainbow Fish. They seem to be happy and well adjusted. For now.
If we can get through this week of quarter exams, volleyball games and busy work stuff, then we'll be doing well. And next week is fall break. Featuring volleyball games and a busy work stuff. No beach getaway for me. Oh well...
Happy Tuesday.

Tuning in.
So I'm the last person on the planet to find the show known as Friday Night Lights.
I know, I know...
I don't watch much TV. Well, *real* TV. I watch lots of sports and such.
And lots of Bigfoot by default.
But no real show.
So I decided to just find me a TV series and watch it. So FNL it was. And, thanks to the fabby Netflix, was able to in to Season 1 Episode 1.
And I watched it. And I am hooked. And I can't wait to find out what happens with Coach Eric Taylor.
Texas Forever.

The cold thing is the hot topic
I have made it through a whole week of working five full days. It's nearly killed me.
And now it's the weekend. Hallelujah. Finally. Amen.
And to top it off, they are forecasting Winter Death 2011 for us Sunday and Monday.
Humph. That could mean absolutely nothing. Or it could be pretty major.
It all depends on "how the low tracks".
Are you impressed with my weather-speak?
For those of you who don't know, I'm obsessed with weather.
And for those of you who don't know much about Memphis weather, this is how the whole snow thing works....
The mention of the word snow = Major stampede to the grocery store
One inch of snow = Schools close
Five or more inches of snow = City shuts down
Those of you who live in regularly snowed on cities, please don't laugh at us southern folk. We know not of your blizzardy, snow plow, snow blower ways.
So this weekend, I'll be watching the weather and tracking that low pressure system.
And watching the last few college football games.
Because the end of college football season is nigh.
And that brings a tear to my eye.
But the chance of a big ol' snow storm and a day or two out of school next week?
Me likey.

Steer Clear.
If you don't care about college football or don't want to read my pouty, fit-pitching rant of a post, then just click on out of here and check back with me tomorrow.
So not only did I stay up until 11:30 last night --
ELEVEN THIRTY --
I also watched the painfulest of painful Arkansas games.
Yeah, the one they LOST.
Because they couldn't HOLDONTOTHESTUPIDBALL.
Seriously. The Hogs dropped more balls than Times Square on New Year's Eve.
And after getting beat like a drum in the first half, they rallied in the second half. And there was a glimmer of a chance of a Hog win.
And then, with a minute left on the clock, blocked a punt and the win was in plain view. Unfortunately, the big ol' defensive lineman was NOT in plain view and he intercepted the ball at the 17 yard line. And that's when I put a blanket over my head and started crying like a baby.
I barely survived that game. The ups and downs and ups and downs and downs and downs of that game just about did me in. Seriously. Did me in. Like 'breathe in a paper bag' did me in.
The transcript of Tweets and texts between me and Connie and Bingmama goes something like this:
Mercy.
Oh mercy.
Barf.
Wowowowowowow.
ITSJUSTAGAME. ITSJUSTAGAME. ITSJUSTAGAME.
Yowie.
Just peed in my pants.
I'm a wreck.
Oh my dear biscuits and gravy.
And don't even get me started that five of the OSU players should not have even been playing. Hope they write a thank you note to the NCAA governing board today. Because we all know that it is truly effective discipline when you punish someone nine months after discovering their transgression. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Then dude gets up there on the podium and starts whining like a cry-baby cause his foot hurt. Wah wah wah. Oh shut up and go sell your Sugar Bowl ring for another tattoo. There goes my blood pressure again. Oh well. Cheaters never win. Except for last night. *sniff*
So, for those of you keeping score at home.....
My Hogs lost.
In ugly, rollercoaster, pass the blood pressure meds fashion.
And I only got four and a half hours of sleep.
So today I'm sporting big ol' bags under my eyes. Which go nicely with my pouty, mad, tired self.
Gonna' be an ugly day. In more ways than one.
Y'all just better hope that my Tigers win the basketball game tonight....
I'm going to take a nerve pill. And check eBay for a Sugar Bowl ring.
Peace out.

Behind.
So, how's your Christmas shopping coming along?
Three weeks from today is Christmas Eve Eve.
I can feel the leading edge of the holiday panic starting to set in.
I would say I'm about 50% finished with my all my shopping. Maybe.
I always have these grand plans of finishing allll my shopping by Thanksgiving and having everything wrapped and under the tree by December 1.
Humph.
I'm 100% sure that is not gonna' happen this year.
I kind of feel like the yellow defensive team in this football trick play video. See how the holidays, appropriately dressed in red and white, seem to be running a regular ol' play? All of a sudden they just TAKE OFF.
Yep, that's how I feel.
Like I'm being left standing on the line. Confused. And late. And behind.

Worse than the booger poster
Coop managed to scrape up a few more bucks for the school book fair.
I'm so upset with his choice. Even more disappointed than when he bought the booger poster, glow-in-the-dark bugs, and alien erasers.
I have grounded him until April 2013.
Because he came home with this.

Five hours of my life
A detailed log of my activities from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 28. Like you care. But oh well.
3:00 Leave work
3:25 Pick up Jordan from school
3:31 Take a look at her cranker expander thing that has fallen completely out of her mouth
3:35 Realize I need gas
3:45 Meet Captain at orthodontist and drop Jordan off
3:55 Get gas
4:05 Pick up Cooper from Mom's
4:10 Realize he doesn't have pads for his football pants
4:18 Get call from Jordan telling me orthodontist took cranker expander thing out (Yea!) and put in thicker wire instead (Boo!)
4:20 Go home to get football pads
4:25 Head BACK to school
4:28 Put football pads in pants at every red light
4:30 Confirm that I hate putting those pads in the pants
4:40 Hear a train whistle
4:41 Start to cry that I will be stuck at this train and be late
4:42 Miss the train
4:43 Say YES! out loud
4:52 Arrive at school
4:53 Weep tears of joy and amazement that I made it before 5:00 pm
4:54 Wake Cooper up since he fell asleep in the car
4:55 Tie cleats, tighten pads, snap helmet
5:00 Go get some milk and lunch box staples since marshmallow and Ritz crackers do not a lunch make. Also get some motrin since Jordan's mouth is going to be real sore from the new tight wire
5:34 Arrive back at football practice
5:45 Realize I'm going to freeze to death
5:50 Start freezing to death
6:00 Put my flip flop clad feet (STUPID) in the bag that holds my sport chair.
6:20 Lose all feeling in my feet
7:08 Get excited when the coach starts that group clapping thing which signals the end of practice
7:09 Say I LOVE TO HEAR THE CLAPPING! out loud
7:16 Wonder how long the coach can continue to talk about giving 110% at the game on Saturday
7:18 Leave school
7:20 Turn on heater full blast
7:21 Determine that is a bit selfish since Cooper is sweating.
7:23 Find moderate temperature
7:25 Realize it's hard to drive with frost bitten feet
8:00 Arrive home

Horizontal
I can see the light at the end of the football tunnel. Cooper has practice tonight and a game Saturday and then it is finito.
It's been an interesting experience. For both of us. It's been fun. And it's been not fun.
Coop got laid out for the first time on Tuesday night at his game.
You know how it goes - a big ol' pile of boys. And they all start peeling off each other. Then one of them stays down. And you start looking for your kid's number among the vertical. And then you realize your kid is the one that's still horizontal. And Tuesday night it just happened to be #78 that had his face in the turf. Hmmmm.
The coach and a ref were hovered over him. Then another coach ran out.
I was standing by a very overprotectice, call 911 and take your kids to the ER type of a Mom.
She kept saying "GO OUT THERE! GO OUT THERE! HE'S HURT! HE'S CRYING!"
But I didn't. And the Captain didn't.
I stood there and prayed and swayed and chewed my fingernails and said "GETUPGETUPGETUPGETUP" in my mind over and over and over. I just said, "Not yet" out loud.
This is all on the heels of a 14 year old friend of ours who broke his femur during a game last week. 911 call, morphine injection on the field, ambulance ride to the hospital, surgery, pins, full leg cast for 10 weeks - the whole shebang.
Humph.
My eyes were going back and forth from Cooper to the Captain. Cooper to the Captain. Cooper to the Captain. The Captain was working the chains that night.
Epi-pen toting Mom was hollering "WELL IF YOU AREN'T GOING, GET THE CAPTAIN TO GO OUT THERE! GO! GO! GO!"
Not yet. Not yet. Not yet.
Time kind of ticked on a little bit and then I saw the Captain turn to hand somebody his number sign stick thing, but then Cooper got up. Much to Coop's dismay, he did NOT get to get carted off on the buggy and give a thumbs up to the crowd. But he did make it off the field. To the applause of all. And the relief of his mama.
Apparently got clothes-lined and got hit in the throat and kind of had his head jerked back. He trotted off. Sucked back the tears. Got some water. And then headed back in the game.
I know, I know - seasoned football moms will say, 'That's just part of the game. Get over it."
Well, I'm not a seasoned football mom.
And it was my kid on the field.
And say what you want, he's still my little 8 year old baby that wears spiderman underpants. I don't care how big his shoulder pads are and how hard his helmet is.
*sigh*
Basketball season is next.
No safety equipment required.

Perspective
Cooper's football team has been - how shall I say it - struggling. They've been shut out all of their games this year.
Until last night.
When they scored two touchdowns. And recovered their own onside kick.
The boys were so excited. The coaches were so excited. The parents were so excited.
There was yelling and cheering and jumping up and down. By boys and coaches and parents alike.
They still lost the game by 21 points.
But you'd never know.
On the way home Cooper said, "Man, I can't believe we finally WON!"
Guess it's all in how you look at it.

Monday Miscellany
What did you do this weekend?
Friday night was our high school homecoming.
And, not to let anybody down, Connie and I showed up dressed just alike. We do that all the time. It's some wacky sister mojo thing we've got. We've been known to text each other prior to events, "What are you wearing?" But we didn't do that Friday. She looked very cute.
Three girls on the homecoming court had chosen football players for their escorts. The girls were just standing on the field by themselves waiting. When it became painfully obvious the coach was not going to let the boys out of the locker room in time to be on the field with the court, three young men, in their shorts and tshirts, ran out of the student bleachers to escort the girls. Sweet, sweet boys. All the mamas were bawling.
Speaking of bawling mamas, a player from the visiting team got hurt and was down for quite a long time. Really a long time. Bad scene when his daddy and his mama left the stands and went down on the field with him. And they called an ambulance. Yeah, an ambulance in the middle of the football field is not really a vision I am comfortable with. But according to Facebook, which we all know is the the official social source of truth and knowledge, he only suffered a concussion and will be ok. His FB page said something about it being "another" concussion, so that will probably be the end of #1's football season. It also made me glad that Cooper is not too keen on football right now. I was ready to throw in the helmet towel right then and there.
That same night, Jordan had a volleyball team sleepover. The gals headed out to roll their manager's yard. However, somebody tipped him off and he, along with his entire family and the girls' coaches, were hiding and attacked them with shaving cream and silly string. I am still laughing my head off about this.
Saturday afternoon, Cooper had a football game. He managed not to get clobbered. Which was apparently his main goal.
The rest of the weekend was spent hauling Jordan all over town trying to get the pieces and resources for her French project. It may or may not have involved cheese and pipe cleaners.
This week features volleyball games on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, a tournament Friday night, and a tournament all day Saturday. Oh, and practice Wednesday. Don't forget to squeeze in two nights of football practice too. And all that pesky homework.
Jordan gets her top braces today. Yippee.
That about sums it up for me. If you need me, I'll be in the bleachers....

How was your day dear?
Yesterday, on the Tuesday that felt like a Monday, I was still sitting in a meeting at 5pm.
Cooper had to be at football practice across town at 5:45pm.
Jordan had a volleyball game at 5pm on the *other* side of town. The Captain attended and rah-rah-rah'd.
I flew out of the office at 5:05pm.
Ran in the door, changed my clothes and grabbed the kid.
Screached in the parking lot and made it to practice right as the kids were starting all those 1-2-3 warm up things.
Saw friend from church in the parking lot who pointed out that the pads in Coop's pants were all snapped in upside down.
I'm a goober head.
Fixed the pants.
Slapped him on the rear, kissed his little helmet bobble-head self and sent him off to the field.
Grabbed his 87 gallon water jug, my chair, and an umbrella.
Watched practice.
Hit hit hit.
Yea! Coop had a great tackle.
Right now that's not happening very much.
I was kinda' proud.
The coach bonked him on the helmet and said "Way to go W!!!!"
(Actually he didn't say "W", he said "LAST NAME", but our last name is all policey and highly confidental and stuff.....)
Watched Cooper go check on a player who was slow to get up.
Heard two dads talking, "Cooper is always encouraging everybody and congratulating them and telling them they've done a good job. He's a real nice kid."
Now THAT made me proud.
Forget the football.
*sniff*
Play a little Words with Friends.

Cue the rain.
Oh wait -
Now cue the POURING rain.
Sit in the pouring rain for about 30 minutes.
Wonder if I'm really cut out to be a football mom.
Two hours later, practice is over.
Coop gets his game jersey -- with his name on it.
He's proud. Even though he hates football.
Head to the car.
Squish squish squish.
Ask Cooper to strip down to his underwear before he gets in the car.
He declines.
Seriously, those pants.
Those cleats.
Yuk.
Ummmmm....
Is that tire supposed to be that flat-looking?
Blah.
Text the Captain to see if he has an air blowy up thing in the garage.
He does.
Of course he does.
Hope there is enough air in the tire to make it home.
Drive home and pray the tire doesn't blow out and we go skidding all over the slickish road.
Make it home sans blow-out.
Whew.
Jordan and the Captain show up at the casa.
Recap of the day and the volleyball game.
With showers and homework for all.
Good night.

*Flinch*
Yesterday, I was able to stay and watch Cooper's football practice for the first time.
And I found out...maybe I'm not cut out to be a football mom.
Cause they just hit so....hard.
And the coaches yell so....loud.
Coop caught a helmet to the ribs and the coach sent him over to me to catch his breath and get some water from his 96 gallon jug that is the size of a Grecian urn that I bought him to make sure he doesn't dehydrate but it's so big he can hardly lift it to his mouth and when he tilts it up to take a drink he tips over backwards.
I wanted to just put him in the car and drive him home after making a quick trip to the ER to get an x-ray because I was sure he had ruptured his spleen patted his sweaty little head and sent him back down to the field.
To the hitting and yelling. And I made a note to check into the school's chess club the minute I got home.
And when we got home, Cooper was proud that grass fell out of his underwear when he was getting ready for a shower.
And the Captain laughed at me after I told him about practice and said "Yelling? You think Coach U yells?? Wait til high school."
Then Coop and the Captain practiced some kind of shoulder bump butt roll thing in the den and watched a re-run of an NFL preseason game. And talked football.
And I washed volleyball uniforms and was grateful that one of my kids participates in a sport that doesn't require a helmet.
I'm rambling about football, ok so i cry easily, yes I'm one of those moms

We'll both be cranky.
Probably by the time you are reading this, I will be in Mississippi in a cow pasture with one of my physicians doing a live TV morning show about ATV safety. Yes I will be leaving my house at 5:30 am wearing some fashionable polka-dot or camo boots. At least it's not still 157 degrees. Oh the glamorous life of a PR gal....
Speaking of yucky. Jordan got her orthodontic appliance expander cranky thing yesterday. This is NOT her mouth, but it looks kind of like this.
They said it shouldn't give her any problems other than when she is talking, swallowing, breathing, eating, and getting food hung all up in there. Okey dokey. She is supposed to put a little pin (that looks like a crochet needle) thing in the middle (between those arrows) and crank it down every day. Erg. Looks like some medieval torture device.
In the meantime, Connie and I are trying to figure out how to do all this tonight.....Jordan and Niece M's volleyball game at 5:00 pm at Location HS, Nephew T's football practice 3:30-600 pm at Location CR, Cooper's football practice 6:00-8:00pm at Location CR, and Cooper's meet the teacher night 7:00 pm at Location CD. *sigh*
That's about it for me. And that's enough.
Hip Hip Hooray people! We've made it to Thursday!!

Red alert
My anxiety level is running very high this week and my heart is on overdrive.
The 19 year old daughter of one of my physicians was killed in a car accident yesterday. She had just left her home and was returning to college. They are simply a good family. My heart is heavy with sadness. Please pray for Dr. David L. and his family.
Jordan is having oral surgery today to remove four teeth which is her first step in the Wonderful World of Braces. I'm just ready to get it over with. And I know she is too. I'm having teeeny issues with the anesthesia. Cooper had a pretty bad experience with some surgery when he was a wee one and that is weighing on my mind. I guess our afternoon will be full of ice packs and milkshakes.
And case you didn't know, the creature known as The Teenage Girl is a very mysterious and often volatile being. Because apparently if your volleyball spandex are a size too large, the world is coming to a fast and violent end. Also, apparently missing just one out of 26,209 social events is a catastrophe. Blah.
No news that I'm already fretting over the "getting everybody where they are supposed to be for games and practices every day for the next four months" schedule. A bit exhausted from it this week...and this was one of the "easiest". If you can call sitting in a gym watching a volleyball game at 10pm "easy".
Connie and I were talking about how we are going to make it all happen. And the sisterly convo went something like this....
Connie: This gives me hives.
Me: I need a nerve pill.
Connie: If you take a pill, you can't drive anybody anywhere.
Me: Bingo.
Connie: Wimp.
But Cooper has made it through two of his first nights of football camp. And so did his overprotective smothering mother hen. He did say he felt like he was in jail or military camp. I told him I was proud of the way he stood and listened to the coaches and didn't talk or cut up like some of the other boys. He said, "Well the only reason I did that was because I didn't want to run laps or do push-ups." Well, not really the reason I am teaching my kids to respect adults, but ok. And do I need to remind you that the heat is just brutal?
And no, we haven't made the first step toward getting our school stuff. Which adds about 75 points to my anxiety level. And that's stupid. But I can't help it. I fret. It's what I do.
My emotions and heart and angst and all of that are just a big ol' tangled upset mess right now. Let's throw in some hormones for good measure, want to? Grrrrrrrr.
Tiny prayer for Jordan today ok? But a HUGE prayer for Dr. L. Thank you. And it would probably be in your best interest to just avoid me altogether.

Grab your bag and get in the car
It all starts today.
And I guess I'd better get used to it.
Because it will be like this for at least nine more years.
Or at least until November.
This is the week that Cooper's football camps and practices start.
Three nights a week.
And an occasional weekend.
Factor that in with Jordan's on-going volleyball practices, camps, and clinics that have already been going on all summer.
Five nights a week.
And an occasional weekend.
That's a lot to coordinate.
And it has involved an excel spreadsheet. And several different colored highlighters.
Cooper has played team sports before, but up until now, it's involved a one-hour practice and a game on Saturday. This little team is a bit more than that. This is also his first brush with football. He's excited. And nervous. It's tackle. Which means he has to wear a helmet and shoulder pads and lots of other pads.
(For those of you who are unfamiliar with the sport of volleyball, it only requires knee pads.)
He's very proud all of his gear. And has been wearing his helmet and mouthpiece around the house.
But he doesn't want to get hurt. And thinks that if he does, the buggy will come out and get him on the field and he will get to give the cheering crowd a thumbs-up. Ummmmm, Coop, it's just 3rd & 4th grade football. No buggy.
This crazy practice schedule concerns me. Especially when school starts. Because it means most nights we are will be dragging in close to nine o'clock. That's just late people. And there's that thing called homework....and bedtime.... And I'm a firm believer in home-cooked dinner. We are not a fast food drive through family. Helllloooooo my beloved crockpot!
And I know that's just all part of it....
Jordan has had some experience with crazy practice schedules, but since she is playing on the JV team this year, the schedule ramps up significantly.
And I know I shouldn't say Cooper is just eight and he's a baby and this is a huge commitment. But Cooper is just eight and he's a baby and this is a huge commitment.
And our kids are only involved in one activity. How on earth do these people do it when they have their kids in dance, and cheer, and voice, and boy scouts, and french lessons, and all that? Whew!
Anyhoo.....tonight it all begins.
Please send Gatorade. And gift cards for gasoline.
And if anybody wants to be penciled in for a drop-off or a pick-up slot, let me know.
(For my local readers, Jordan's camp this week runs until 10pm and is at a very nice college way down by the zoo. Yes, the one that rhymes with "Toads". Yes, I'm serious. And let's just say it won't be the first time I've picked her and Niece M up from practice wearing my jammie pants. )
And for those of you keeping score at home, school starts in three weeks. And no, we don't have uniforms or school supplies yet. And I avoid the tax-free weekend like the plague. It's not worth saving $23 to fight some woman over notebook paper and pocket folders with prongs.
Happy Monday people. I've had my crockpot plugged in since 5am.
So let the games practices for the games begin.

Guess it's two out of three
Four weeks until school starts.
Say it ain't so!
I'm in total denial about all that.
I like the lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer.
We've had all that.
Lazy. Crazy. Hazy.
Now the crazy cranks up and the lazy ratchets down.
And the hazy just hangs around no matter what's going on.
Blah.
Jordan is full swing in daily volleyball practice.
And Cooper starts football next week. Practice three days a week.
Yes, he's playing football this year.
Tackle football. Tackle.
That's another story for another day.
Anyway, there's a lot of drop off, pick up, drop off, pick up.....
Let's see...what else do we have to cram into these last four weeks....
Jordan has oral surgery next week to get four teeth pulled followed by three appointments for braces. Erg.
Cooper needs to get a cavity filled. Mom guilt.
School supplies. School uniforms. That's another $57,209.
Hey Jordan - how's that summer reading coming?!
Oh blah.....
I just wanna' stick with the lazy.
And forget the crazy.
And the hazy.
Cause the high today is 296 degrees. And The Weatherman actually just used the word "scorcher".
Alrighty people. Wishing you lazy with no crazy.
Peace out.
P.S. Nick starts radiation and chemo today. Daily treatments for seven weeks. Hope you'll continue to pray for him. His CaringBridge page is right here.

Monday Miscellany
Well whadya' know....today's original forecast of "snow flurries mixed with rain" has suddenly turned into a "Winter Storm Warning with accumulations over 3 inches". Schools are closed. There will be some very surprised people when they wake up this morning and look out the window. Hooray! Happy Monday to us!!
In other news...
Good Super Bowl last night. We only caught the second half cause of church and all. But it was exciting enough. Cooper was for the Colts up until that last game-sealing interception then he suddenly became a Saints fan.
This was a busy weekend which is also called "drive Jordan all over the city to various social and church activities."
Cooper used a roll of garbage bags draped around the furniture to make a wrestling ring in our den. He then later said it was a crime scene. Maybe it was a murder AT the wrestling match. At some point during the weekend, he asked why it was called a ring when it was shaped like a square. Hmmmm, good question kid.
Jordan finally learned how to swallow a pill. Small victories people, small victories.
When I asked Cooper yesterday how Bible class was he said he was pretty sure he has leprosy. Not real sure what to do with that. I'll go look in the medicine bucket for some sort of cream of something.
OK, that's about it for me.
I've already got Pioneer Woman's Italian Drip Beef in the crock pot people. It's gonna' be a good day.
